Ah, yes, the good ol' days of reality TV...where shows like Room Raiders and Punk'd were all the rage.
Josh hopped on the reality train for the first time when he appeared on Punk'd in 2012. Since this wasn't an acting performance (Or was it, Josh?) I won't be sharing my usual critique, but rather just commentary on the episode overall.
This episode was hosted by Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars and features pranks on not only Josh, but some other stars you may recognize - like Vanessa Hudgens, who was in Journey 2 with Josh and Sarah Hyland from Modern Family.

Josh appears at the end of the episode, and we only see him for a few minutes. During his segment, the set-up involves making Josh and his friend think they are being followed by undercover cops only to discover...the "cops" mistook them for their actual target. The prank went so far that they were brought in for "questioning" and confronted by these "cops" but what stood out to me was how calm Josh was. I know he's capable of being dramatic and emotional while in character (we've seen it in like 30ish projects before this reality TV appearance) but we never see Josh "overreact" during Lucy's joke. I felt like his reactions were pretty normal - questioning the ridiculousness of the situation and some confused and concerned faces.
He's also a great sport at the end when it's revealed that it was all an elaborate scheme orchestrated by Lucy Hale and the crew. We even hear the classic line from the series as the episode closes: "I'm Josh Hutcherson and I've been Punk'd!".
I don't know enough about the show to know how "real" it was. Do you think Josh was in on it? Do you think he was genuinely surprised? Let me know in the comments! Personally, I think it was in the middle - I think he knew something odd was going on and someone was up to a prank, but perhaps didn't know all the deets.
If you want to watch this episode, it was an inexpensive find on AppleTV! I was able to purchase it for just a dollar.
Until next time...
Peace and Joshperity,
G
