What would YOU do if you suddenly found yourself the size of an insect (yes, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids style) and a queen tasked you with an important duty you didn't even understand...?
If you don't really have an answer for that hypothetical scenario, no problem, because Josh's 2013 movie Epic does.
Epic is an animated film, so yes - voice acting Josh is back! Personally, I'm a big fan of his voice acting work and feel he could easily voice a prince. His character in Epic, Nod, may be the closest we'll ever get to that (for now...come on, Josh! Audition for some princely stuff!)

Nod reminded me of Prince Cornelius from another animated movie featuring tiny people, 1994's Thumbelina. In that Don Bluth classic, Thumbelina is visited by Cornelius, the fairy prince, with an adventurous (and romantic!) spirit that sometimes clashed with his royal family. Nod has those same qualities and is also a tiny...forest...person? Close enough?
The plot of Epic is a little different though - MK, a human girl, voiced by Amanda Seyfried, has a complicated relationship with her researcher dad...until she realizes his research wasn't a bunch of BS as she thought - but a real scientific discovery! The society of tiny people he was curious about, "the Leafmen", did indeed exist and MK finds herself right in the middle of the action...and maybe even falling in love...can you guess with what character? ;)
Anyway, my Disney-fangirl heart appreciated Josh's voice performance in this film! I'd also compare it to his performance as Sean from the Journey films, especially Sean's adventure from the 2012 film, Journey 2 - The Mysterious Island. Nod's stubborn, but loyal, and I could see some of Sean in Josh's Epic animated character.
There are some scenes where Nod is kind of grunting or huffling along - I wonder if that was awkward or strange for Josh to record. I'd imagine recording a series of sounds as reactions would feel different than reading lines. However, regardless of how this felt for him, every additional sound bite he provided for Nod sounded authentic and true to the character.
If you haven't seen Epic yet, at the time of this post, it is available to stream on Hulu, and it's also available for purchase from the major movie retailers.
Next up, we have one of my personal favorite stories - stay tuned!
Peace and Joshperity,
G
